Shamba Network: Equipping Smallholder Farmers to Conserve Ecosystems

Shamba Network is building an affordable D-MRV (Digital Monitoring, Reporting, & Verification) technology solution using satellite data. MRV technology allows farmers to be paid for reducing carbon in the atmosphere but is typically only affordable for wealthy farmers.

Shamba Network is based in Nairobi, Kenya where many farmers can’t afford the MRV expense. With D-MRV, their contribution will be brought from satellite data to an on-chain oracle and accessible via Chainlink. This will allow small farmers to be paid like large farmers for removing carbon from the atmosphere, thereby invigorating the global south, and helping us regenerate both our economy and the planet.

I am passionate about helping small farmers and conserving ecosystems. We are currently rolling out solutions to farmers.

Kennedy Nganga, founder Shamba Network

“I want to have a positive impact on the climate, and also want to improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers across the global south. So far we've developed software, launched some of it, and are now in the process of onboarding farmers.” says Kennedy. “Gitcoin has funded our MVP development and enabled us to deploy our solution to users. We couldn't have done it without Gitcoin.”
